Obituary

Nancy Stewart Hindman passed away in her sleep on Thursday, June 11, 2020 from complications of Alzheimer’s.

Nancy was bright, energetic, and outgoing. She thrived on mentoring and encouraging others. She loved yoga, travel, dogs, and her friends. She was an active leader in numerous professional and civic groups.

Nancy was born to Robert M. and Ethel Koelker Stewart in Salem, Illinois on June 12, 1941. After growing up in the US and Europe she received her bachelor’s degree from Millikin University in 1963 and married Douglas Hindman in 1964. She received her master’s degree from Florida State University in 1967. She was a professor and Director of Student Support Services at Eastern Kentucky University supporting thousands of low-income, first-generation college students. After retiring, she and her husband moved to Berea. She is survived by her husband Doug; their daughter Heather Hindman, professor at University of Texas, Austin; and by her sister-in-law Sarah Hindman.

Services will be announced later after COVID passes. In lieu of flowers consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Sincere condolences to Doug and Heather. It was always very pleasant chatting with Nancy and sharing our experiences working at EKU. We also enjoyed talking about our children, both of whom played the saxophone at Model! Nancy was a very accomplished woman and always very friendly. I'm sure many others have fond memories of her.
