Gwenda Leah Wright Castle passed from this earth on May 22, 2020. She was born on May 29, 1941 to Jesse E. and Alma (Adams) Wright of Neon, KY. She graduated high school at Fleming Neon High School and completed her Home Economics Education degree at Morehead State University. She served in the Home Economics Department at Fleming Neon High School and worked as a substitute teacher with the Berea Board of Education for seven years. She married Fred D. Castle on May 23, 1965. Together they raised their two children, Candace D. Castle (James “Bear”) Whitworth, of Ledbetter, KY and Samuel D. (Vicky Adams) Castle of Berea, KY. She was blessed by five wonderful grandchildren, James Alexander “Alex” Whitworth, Ledbetter, KY; Caeleigh Whitworth Euteneier (Ryan), Paducah, KY; Andrew “Drew” Hunter Whitworth, Murray, KY; Samuel Derek Castle, Berea, KY and Victoria Brooke Castle, Berea, KY. Her grandchildren will have the honor as serving as her pallbearers.
She is also survived by siblings Sharron (Allen) Riddle, Bryantsville, KY, Carol (Claude) Brown, Melbourne, FL, Jesse “Cowboy” (Dottie) Wright, Neon, KY, Sherry (James) Castle, Flat Gap, KY, Jon Barry (Sheree) Wright, Neon, KY, and sister-in-law Annette Youngblood Castle, Lexington, KY. She was also loved by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
There was nothing Gwenda cherished more than her family other than her love for God. She was an active member of the Berea Church of God. She was a strong woman of faith and shared her love for God with anyone who would listen. She had an exceptional memory and could recall anyone she had ever met. She loved to encourage others and could tell you the birthday and anniversary of almost anyone she knew. She enjoyed working with young people and spent many years volunteering with 4-H and scouts. She played the piano and loved going to the Berea nursing home to play for the residents there. She spent her spring growing flowers and sharing them with the people she loved. She was an excellent cook and baked the most amazing pies. No matter how closely others followed her recipes, they couldn't quite replicate them. She was kind, loving, and will be missed beyond measure by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother Julia Cooke Wright, and sisters Joy (Bill) Davis of Melbourne, FL and Patty (Arnold) Playforth of Louisville, KY.
