Obituary for Carl Douglas Cates

Carl Douglas Cates, age 70, of Berea, passed away, Thursday, August 15, 2019 at U.K. Medical Center.
Carl was born in Madison County to the late Boyd and Margaret Abner Cates. He retired from Wal-Mart in the maintenance department and was a member of the Pentecostal faith. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His passion was working with wood. He loved making mandolins, cabinets and other items for family and friends. In his free time, he loved to take out his metal detector to see what he could find.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Harold Cates.
He is survived by his two daughters, Eugenia “Annie” Huguely of Sabina, Ohio and Connie (Travis L.) Jackson of Berea; six siblings, Lloyd (Wanda) Kates, Rubin Ray Kates, Boyd (Doris) Cates, Jr., Hazel Cates, Kathleen (William) Shearer, Eliza (Delbert) Crutcher; three grandchildren, Mark Huguely, Nathan Jackson, and Noah Douglas Jackson; and many other friends and family members.
Funeral services will be 2pm, Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Charlie Wilson and Bro. Leonard Wilder officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnny Abner Family Cemetery at Mallory Springs. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 5- 9pm at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Shearer, Eric Jackson, Brad Jackson, Bruce Kates, Randy Kates, and Lloyd Kates, Jr. Honorary bearers will be Eugene Crutcher, John Shearer, Doug Crutcher, Landon Douglas Crutcher, nieces, great nieces and great nephews.
